Maya Anderson has faced more than her share of tragedy and heartbreak. For the past six years she’s constantly been on the move with her mom. When another disaster strikes, she finds herself back in her childhood hometown of Beaumont, living with her older sister for her senior year.
A chance meeting reacquaints her with Ben McCaffey, a long-forgotten classmate from her past. After the murder of his girlfriend, Ben has become a social outcast. He’s despised by some and feared by most.
Determined to become Ben’s friend, Maya begins to break through his layers of emotional protection. It isn’t long before they realize that they both have secrets in their pasts. As the line between dealing with grief and struggling with a desire for revenge begins to fade, the secrets that draw them together may be what will ultimately tear them apart. Because the closer Maya gets to Ben, the more dangerous her situation becomes.

When I'm reading, I look for three things: strong story, compelling characters, and solid writing. TWISTED had all of the above. While two out of three might be enough to keep me reading, it wouldn't leave me riveted, as I was with this tremendous YA story.I don't summarize plots. So here's what you need to know about this book. It's beautiful. It will make you feel. The characters are bowed, but not broken. This book is about pain and the power a single soul can have over another. There's devastating darkness and cruelty, but the story's not devoid of hope. It has longing and angst and emotional intensity. There's a romance you can't help but want and fear at the same time, as the precise circumstances break your heart. You want the characters to rise. To shine. To overcome, but the tenderness is etched with a delicate brush; and you're terrified that it will all go dark-- that the monsters will win. It's shining gold over a bleak heart.
I just... I loved it. I loved it so much that when I picked up my daughter from school (she's almost 15), I told her about it. I had only said a few words, but my expression gave me away. I was rapt, enchanted, and she could tell. "I want it," she said. "Do you have it? I want to read it right now." I did have it. I loaded it on my Kindle for her, and away she went. Just now, I asked her if she wanted to watch TV with me.
"No thanks," she said. "I'd rather read TWISTED. It's amazing."
And there you have it.

Twisted eBook Amity Hope Reviews
What a great story line ! In short, it is a true hero story, but also with little twists and turns! But I love it when there is healing involved in the natural everyday life of a family whom have some 'normal' dysfunctional chaos, as so many real families deal with, and they are working to change that dysfunction into a more realistic function and become the better person a better family. In the long run ! Realistic and believable characters!
Great for teen who are facing grief, loss, or bullying and a healthy wand adult women in recovery, or domestic violence! There is a way out before it is too late , really any one can read enjoy and learn something or be reminded what Is right. to to stay strong yet dealing with life on life's terms ! No one deserves the hurt of bullying, of loss and you can still grieve and learn a purpose and take the high road and move on with life and stand up an do what is right!
2.5 Stars
Why it did not work for me.
Maya was doing the chasing or making every effort to talk to Ben and not the other way around. I do not mind when the heroine is fighting for the underdog. I actual would not have minded that she was the aggressor, but it has to be done right. I can't feel like she is the only one giving. Ben barely gave anything of himself. I did not feel connected because Ben only showed a small piece of himself. I would understand his behavior if he was with Maya and there were other people around, but he was like this when it was just the two of them. I feel like I did not get to know Ben at all. I barely saw them together without Maya doing all the trying. I did not buy the ending at all.
So disappointed since I love these type of YA stories, but they have to be done right.
This is my opinion. You may love it. I am not telling you not to read it.
I ended up giving this 3 stars because I bought this book since it seemed to have nearly 5 star reviews and it was a Top seller. The story started out fine, even if the main character was a little one-dimensional. But it kept my interest, mainly to see what the plot would be.
And that was why I ultimately gave this 3 stars instead of 4. Where was the plot? Apart from the love story. But it wasn't clear at first this was a romance, or that the heroine would ultimately be in trouble.
Then, when it did start to seem her life might be in danger, the way it was handled wasn't plausible. Stop reading here if you don't want to know the ending. Spoiler ahead.
When it becomes clear she's receiving threats, instead of telling her sister, who wants to let school officials know, she hides it. And so do her friends. That struck me as unrealistic and outside the realm of reactions for her characters as she'd set them up. Then the main character went to go chew out the principle when her boyfriend's locker was vandalized. It was treated as a "tell instead of show" moment. No dialogue, just an account of what happened. Maybe it wouldn't have bothered anyone else, but as a writer it bothered me enormously.
The other thing that bothered me was when the bully kidnapped her. Why didn't she just pull out her phone and text someone or call someone right then? Her hands weren't bound. And the fact that the bully had this master plan to frame her boyfriend all along just didn't ring true either. So that's another reason I went with 3 instead of 4 stars.
That said, even for what bothered me about the book, I did find the characters charming and I found myself invested in reading on to see what happened to them. Would I recommend the book? Yes. It was a cute story.
